ABOUT ABIGAIL
Abigail McMillen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working both in-person and virtually with residents of California.
Abigail utilizes her professional education, extensive training, and personal life experience to inform her specializations in helping those grappling with grief, stress, life transitions or identity struggles, hurtful relationship patterns, addiction, and issues related to ADHD and ASD. Abigail is passionate about working with both individuals and couples, and also provides therapeutic support in relationship issues and sexual concerns.
Abigail’s therapeutic practice is holistic, curious, compassionate, and focused on true transformation. Her aim is to provide empathic support, dignity, and exploration for clients to have a more fully realized sense of self and peace. She practices by the Narrative phrase: "The person is not the problem; the problem is the problem."
Abigail works from both person-centered and evidence-based approaches. She incorporates Narrative, Gestalt, Existential, DBT, and Somatic therapeutic modalities into her work with clients, tailoring each approach for each individual. Her love for somatic integration and a holistic approach to healing began with a transformative experience with Zazen meditation and Bikram hot yoga, and working through her own chronic pain and experiences with grief. Abigail is also a certified meditation facilitator and teacher. Through years of practicing Shadow Work, mindfulness, and here-and-now awareness, Abigail believes in its incredible value and place in therapy. She has formal training in Narrative and Existential therapy, and served as a relationship counselor and sex educator for a number of years.
Abigail’s practice is embedded with appreciation for essential human experiences such as the search for philosophical meaning, storytelling, introspection, creative expression, spirituality, and humor. She finds joy in co-creating and enriching sessions for each client individually, and truly believes there is no such thing as “one size fits all.”
Abigail resides in Los Angeles and spends her free time enjoying the gorgeous hiking trails around the city, practicing hot yoga, exploring new Thai restaurants with her partner, and getting lost in a good mystery novel.
